With one holiday down and only one more to go, it's so exhausting to keep thinking up creative ways to celebrate one more holiday with the kids. But as Mama always says, kids are easy to please...here's a few simple ideas to make your New Year's Eve festive and fun! Mama suggests inviting your friends with kids over for a family-friendly East Coast New Years Eve Party (or if you are East Coast, make it London time) -- even 9 p.m. is late for the kiddos but it's a lot better than keeping everyone up until midnight!!
Dress Festive -- nothing like ringing in the New Year in fun, personalized PJs!! Forgot the nice dresses and sweater vests, and order a pair of Chasing Fireflies PJs available in red, green and blue that says "Happy 2010!" All you do is add your kid's names. Available at Chasing-Fireflies.com, $48. No need to get them ready for bed after the ball drops!!
Make a Time Capsule -- take an empty shoe box or Tupperware container and fill it with all the memories of 2009. Print out pictures, let the kids rip out photos from old magazines that represent the year (can anyone say Zhu Zhu Pet or Obama...), and have them draw a picture of what the year represents to them. Then bury it in the backyard or take it and put it in the back of the closet to open years from now.
Presents that Pop -- New Years Eve decorations are fun so stock up from the local dollar store or Target on party hats, noise makers, and party poppers. You can set the table with the party poppers or for a fun game you can hide them around the house and have the kids hunt for them. You can also make your own poppers with empty toilet paper rolls and small prizes. Stick the prize in the middle and wrap the roll and tie off each end. It's a fun pre-event activity to keep the kids occupied while you work on the next activity.
Balloon Drop -- create your own mini balloon drop from the ceiling!! Blow up 25-50 balloons and anchor them with two paper or plastic tableclothes to the ceiling. Anchor a rope to pull the clothes down at just the right time. Also, you can add confetti for extra FUN points!
Toast the Night -- teach your kids how to "Cheers" and toast for a fun and prosperous 2010 with sparkling apple cider or Italian soda. Kids will have fun pretending to drink a grown-up drink out of plastic champagne flutes.
Kids will love being able to take part in the New Years celebration with you! Mama wants to know, what's your favorite family-friendly New Years Eve tradition?
